Wild Pottery - 2 day weekend workshop

£70.00

Join us for a 2 day weekend workshop exploring open wood firing in the woods, using locally sourced raw clay.

Set in the ancient woodland of Lesnes Abbey Woods, we will explore the processes, materials, history and shared collective experience of working with wild clay.

Using ancient knowledge to connect us to the earth and an understanding of how to form and fire raw clay, with locally sourced, excavated clay, this 2 day workshop will take place in at The Clearing, our woodland workshop in Lesnes Abbey Woods.

We will create our own modelling tools, and fire the work on simple, open wood-based fires.

We will have a range of urban clays that we have sustainably sourced, that would otherwise go to waste.

  • Saturday 7th March & Sunday 8th March

  • Saturday 18th March & Sunday 19th April

Both days take place from 9am - 4pm, meeting at the gate of The Clearing.

This 2 Day workshop is for adults only.

The workshop will go ahead in all but extreme weather with shelter, warmth, tea and simple snacks. We also suggest you bring a packed lunch. Please remember to wear clothing and shoes suitable for being outdoors for the day. It will be soft and woody ground under foot.

This workshop is provided - at a greatly discounted price - by the Friends of Lesnes Abbey and Woods, a voluntary group that offers a selection of weekly volunteering activities in and around the park and woodland. This kind of workshop costs around £250 elsewhere

Our Lesnes Abbey Forest Club volunteers meet four times a month (1st & 3rd Thursdays and 2nd & 4th Saturdays), where we support the seasonal environmental and conservation tasks that help maintain the health and ecology of these special and important ancient woodlands. We also run workshops with local community groups to help support their teaching, environmental and gardening projects. All proceeds from this workshop will go straight back into the project.
