22nd & 23rd April

Open wood firing, in the woods, using locally sourced raw clay - a hugely discounted course!

Using ancient knowledge to connect us to the earth and an understanding of how to form and fire raw clay, with locally sourced, excavated clay, this 2 day workshop will take place in a secluded space within Lesnes Abbey Woods.

We will be exploring the raw clay process, creating our own modelling tools, and we will fire the work on simple, open wood-based fires.

This 2 Day Workshop is for Adults only. Places are limited. Booking is essential!

Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd April 2023, 9.45-4pm

Meet at 9.45 at the Chestnuts Café, Lesnes Abbey Lodge. We will then take you on a short guided walk into the woods to our firing space.

The workshop will go ahead in all but extreme weather with shelter, warmth, tea and simple snacks. We also suggest you bring a packed lunch. Please remember to wear clothing and shoes suitable for being outdoors for the day. It will be soft and woody ground under foot.

This workshop is provided - at a greatly discounted price - by the Friends of Lesnes Abbey and Woods, a voluntary group that offers a selection of weekly volunteering activities in and around the park and woodland. This kind of workshop costs around £250 elsewhere

Our Lesnes Abbey Forest Club volunteers meet four times a month (1st & 3rd Thursdays and 2nd & 4th Saturdays), where we support the seasonal environmental and conservation tasks that help maintain the health and ecology of these special and important ancient woodlands. We also run workshops with local community groups to help support their teaching, environmental and gardening projects. All proceeds from this workshop will go straight back into the project.
