Fire and Breath Bowl Making Experience
An introduction to the art of fire making
In this captivating workshop, you'll be delving into the mesmerising art of fire-making at The Clearing. No prior experience necessary. You'll journey through the fundamentals of fire safety, the intricacies of using ferro rods and tinder, creating char cloth, mastering flint and steel, and the challenge of lighting wet wood fires. Not to mention the fascinating process of making charcoal in a fire, as well as carving with fire to make fire breath bowls. Don't worry if you're new to this – we'll guide you through every step, ensuring a safe and enriching experience.
You'll work with a variety of materials, all provided for you, creating a take home craft by the end. Exploring the creation of fire bowls, you will be using small pieces of seasoned wood and manipulating embers on the wood to create a bowl. These are formed using your breath and the wind. This process is a beautiful, meditative experience that helps embed the fire making knowledge.
Immerse yourself in our magical outdoor learning space, The Clearing, nestled in the ancient woodland of Lesnes Abbey Woods in South East London. Embrace the transformative nature of this workshop as you learn new skills and techniques. And best of all, you'll leave with your own handmade creations to treasure. This is a beginner-friendly introduction workshop, you’ll get a knowledge and experience around open fires, plus take home some willow charcoal and char cloth.
Please wear weather appropriate clothing, bring a packed lunch and something to share if you’d like to. We all love biscuits! We will have warm tea available.
This workshop is suitable for adults and children 8 years and older. An adult must accompany an attending child and pay for a separate ticket.
